Program Evaluation: Middle School, High School, and College Preparation Initiatives

Several initiatives aim to prepare students for middle school, high school, or college. For many of these programs, the ultimate goal is to increase retention rates and raise the percentage of students advancing to the next grade or graduating. The evaluation reports and executive summaries are available in PDF format from the links below.

The ֱ Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs

The ֱ Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (ֱ GEAR UP) is a seven-year federal initiative designed to increase early college awareness and readiness in traditionally underrepresented groups. ֱ GEAR UP addresses multiple aspects of the college awareness process, including advanced academics, educator professional development, early information and awareness, and family and community support. Additional information can be found at TEA's page.

ֱ GEAR UP: Beyond Grad

TEA was awarded a new GEAR UP state grant for the period of 2017-2024, ֱ GEAR UP: Beyond Grad. The ֱ GEAR UP: Beyond Grad program is working with approximately 10,000 students from six ֱ independent school districts including 12 middle schools and high schools, in rural communities in West ֱ, Southeast ֱ, and the Coastal Bend. The ֱ GEAR UP: Beyond Grad program provides targeted services to two specific cohorts of students: A Primary Cohort consisting of students who were in Grade 7 during the 2018-19 school year receiving services through their first year of postsecondary education (i.e., through the 2024-25 academic year), and a Priority Cohort of students consisting of all other students in Grade 9-12 attending the district high schools during each year of the seven-year grant (i.e., from school years 2018-19 to 2024-25). A longitudinal, mixed methods evaluation of the program focusing on the implementation, impact, and sustainability of the program is being conducted by an external evaluator over the course of the seven-year grant period.
